Part tiki lounge, part Wes Anderson film set, Hardly Ever’s outrageously kitschy set design creates a sense of the familiar and strange.
Born out of Wee/Francesco Scavetta previous work ‘Sincerely Yours’ where the entire set was made of cardboard, Hardly Ever blurs the lines between reality and artifice. Four performers use dance, text and music, along with a quirky retro stage set, to test the gap between expectations and the unexpected. Verbal statements provoke physical responses and strange mismatches: the body becomes a fiction, on which an endless array of other fictions can be articulated in movement.
